The Rogue Queen The Hundredth Queen Book 3 eBook Emily R King

The Rogue Queen picks up where the last book left us, with Kali and her small group of companions are on the run from the Voider, the demon that was unleashed at the end of the last book, who took the place of the dead Rajah Tarek. Kali fights a sickness brought on by the touch of the Voider, causing weakness, injury as well as an imbalance of her fire gift. The group knows that a dangerous war is brewing for their empire, of good versus bad, that will have surprises and betrayals. But the real question is who will survive?

Gah, Kali made so many choices that I wanted to reach into the pages and force her to take back! Sure, I understand the idea of the good of the empire (thank goodness for all you that I am not in charge of an empire because I vote love over the good of all...) but it was so difficult to support what was happening, especially when I could sense the underlying darkness. This book made my heart hurt with the emotional upheaval that took place. The men in Kali's life pretty much got whiplash from the ups and downs of this roller coaster relationship and my heart really broke for all of them. Nothing has ever been easy for Kali.

Sigh, how I missed Deven, and his loyalty and even disposition! Deven was the second narrator in the book and I was ever so happy to get his voice again, I needed his point of view to keep me going in the face of so many hard choices. Can I just mention how happy I was that Deven made a choice based on what he felt was right and not from his emotions due to the guilt trip a certain powerful Kindred gave him? Deven has always been the vice of reason, the paragon of virtue and I love that about him- no matter what has happened, what love is lost, he will always fight for what is right. Sniff, sniff.

I loved seeing characters from all different parts of the past books pop up, all showing how everything is tied together and that the fate of the empire for everyone is in question (Natessa and Yatin make me so happy!). The tension just kept building and building throughout the book- I was literally on the edge of my seat while reading, grasping the book with both hands, white knuckles, waiting for the moment everything would come crashing down around these people I have become invested in. Sure there was some nice fighting and action thrown in to, but I feel like the body of the story was setting me up for

There is just one book left in the series and with the number of surprises Emily has thrown at me and these characters, I have no idea what will happen next- everyone's fate is questionable. I can only hope for a HEA for Kali, but I am ever so worried as to what devastation will come (the ending!). I hold my breath and very willingly jump into the last leg of this magical, dangerous journey. I hope I can survive it too!

The Rogue Queen The Hundredth Queen Book 3 eBook Emily R King Reviews

Emily you are a wonder!!!
To fit a tale like this into such a short book proves how wonderfully gifted you are with the written word!!! Your imagery is astounding and your words, compelling!
I hope there will be another book for me to wait on pins and needles for so I can know the finale of Kali and Devens story. <3
Just when I thought I could not love and admire Kali and Devin more, Emily R. King proves me wrong! I have to admit the way Kali was acting in the beginning irritated me but once I understood what was going on, I forgave her. This book was really good and filled with so much detail and actions. Kali and Devin were apart for most of it just like book 2 but it gave me a chance to see more of Devin and grow to like him even more. The ending left me desiring more. I cannot wait to see how this explosive series comes to an end.
I'm a huge fan of this series. Kali is a great central character, who stays committed to her values and always seems to come up with a plan at the last minute. I took away one star because (a) more so than the last two books, this one crosses the line back and forth between believable within the realm of fantasy to "write your way out of an impossible situation and (b) I didn't like the ending, and think it is going to again require a touch of writing out of an impossible situation. Overall, these books are a spellbinding series. Looking forward to book 4.
The third book in this series continues Kalinda and her supporters fight to save the Trachand kingdom. In a land where magic users are rarely welcomed or used solely to support a ruler, Kalinda fights for justice against ingrained prejudices and a demon. The story does get a little sluggish in the first half as the author jumps between Kalinda and Deven's storyline, but picks up quickly in the a second half.
Ms. King did it again. This is such an exciting, fun series with strong male and female characters. She has created a fascinating, layered world with good use of magic, politics, religion and warfare. It is a fast-paced read and hard to put down. My only question is whether or not there is a fourth book coming. I really couldn't tell if this was the end or not. How about it, Ms. King? Shall Kalinda carry through with her promise?
Book was decent all around but a bit lacking and scatter-brained at times. I understand a continuation of issues is sometimes needed to drive the story, but then solutions become overly obvious, but overlooked by the characters, it's a bit grating.

Also, Chapter 28 Min 703 there is a random sample of an odd duck noise, lol. Guy dies a horrid death... "quack, quack, quack..." ha!
I've been a fan of this series from the beginning. I love King's writing style, world-building genius, and characters.

"Agency is not only what we do but why..." This quote from the book really sums up what I felt to be the theme of this story.

Kalinda has accepted her abilities, chaotic though they may be, and is taking on her role as the savior to the people while facing challenges (both physical and emotional) that will frustrate you and have you empathizing with her in ways you don't expect.

As the third installment I can see why this continues to be a bestseller and I'm anxiously awaiting the next installment!
